Designers exert significant influence on concrete construction productivity long before work begins in the field. This presentation will define productivity in the context of concrete construction and explain why it is central to maximizing value for project owners, designers, and contractors. The session will highlight examples of effective design collaboration with trade contractors, demonstrating how early engagement and construction-informed decision making can unlock opportunities to streamline work, reduce RFIs, and minimize field changes. By embedding constructability principles into design, teams can better leverage modern construction systems, support detailed planning, and deliver faster, more predictable results aligned with owner objectives.

Phil Diekemper, PRO Executive Director
While at Ceco Phil was active in many industry organizations and projects. Has lived throughout the US during his Ceco career. He retired from Ceco as a Senior VP in 2022 after 40+ years and created PD Advisory responding to consulting requests. Phil is educated as a Civil Engineer with an MBA that supports his business focus of the industry. Phil joined ACI early in 2023 with a passion to create and lead PRO an ACI Center of Excellence for Advancing Productivity.
